Answers to Common Legal & Hiring Questions
Everything you need to know about state bar verification, free consultations, legal fees, and choosing the right attorney.
How does LawVetted verify a lawyer’s license and state bar standing?
Every attorney listed in our directory undergoes automated regulatory screening against official State Bar registries and court disciplinary dockets. We verify active bar registration numbers, admission dates, disciplinary history, and administrative standing before profiles are marked active.
Is requesting a consultation or lawyer match completely free?
Yes. Submitting a consultation inquiry through LawVetted is 100% free with zero obligation. Most participating attorneys also offer an initial case evaluation or free consultation call to discuss your situation.
How do contingency fees work for personal injury and accident cases?
For personal injury, car accidents, medical malpractice, and workers’ compensation claims, lawyers typically work on a contingency fee basis. This means you pay zero upfront out-of-pocket legal fees; the attorney only receives a percentage fee if they successfully obtain a settlement or trial verdict for you.
Is my confidential consultation request protected by Attorney-Client Privilege?
Yes. Any initial factual disclosures and inquiry notes you submit to prospective attorneys are treated with strict confidentiality. Preliminary communications with legal counsel are protected under legal privacy standards and attorney ethics rules.
What is the difference between an attorney, a lawyer, and a law firm?
A lawyer is anyone who has graduated from law school, while an attorney (attorney-at-law) is actively admitted to a state bar and licensed to practice law in court. A law firm is a legal business entity formed by one or more attorneys (partners and associates) along with paralegals and legal support staff.
Can I contact a lawyer directly instead of using the intake match form?
Absolutely. Every lawyer and law firm profile includes their verified telephone number, office address, and direct email where publicly available. You are free to call their office directly or use our fast match form if you need immediate assistance.
What questions should I ask an attorney during our initial consultation?
Key questions to ask include: 1) How many years have you practiced in this specific practice area? 2) Have you handled cases similar to mine recently? 3) What is your fee structure (hourly, flat-fee, or contingency)? 4) Who will be the primary point of contact working on my file?
How do I know which lawyer is right for my jurisdiction and case type?
Legal jurisdiction is tied to state boundaries. Ensure your attorney is licensed in the state where your incident occurred or where your business is formed. Filter our directory by state and legal specialty to review verified ratings, disciplinary standing, and client reviews before selecting.
